Local 91 Instructor Steve Olson Retiring After 36 Years in Industry

Join us in congratulating Steve Olson, who's retiring after 36 years in the industry!

Steve's career began at Local 265 in Carol Stream, IL, and he eventually transferred to Local 91 - back to what he calls "home." The majority of his time in the industry (30 years) was spent in the duct shop, followed by two years as shop superintendent at The Schebler Company.

For the past four years, Steve has been an instructor at the Local 91 training center. His advice for apprentices?

"Never stop learning and never stop trying to improve and be the apprentice that journeymen want to work with," he said. "Look to the future and not what's in front of you right now. The pay and benefits as you progress through your career make it worth it in the end."

Steve will miss the many friends he made during his three-plus decade career, but he'll also miss the work itself.

"There is nothing more satisfying to me than taking a flat piece of metal and turning it into something to be proud of," he said. "There's a certain amount of pride in everything that went out the door and all you can do is hope that you left some impact on the younger generation of sheet metal workers."
